The young doubles team of sophomore Nicki Bouche and freshman Tina Liu are returning to Mountlake Terrace with an eighth place finish and a lot more experience after competing at the WIAA 3A State Girls Tennis Championships Friday and Saturday in Kennewick.

After going 2-1 on the first day of the tournament on Friday, Bouche and Liu met the pair of Caroline Dillon and Caroline Hamilton of Mercer Island in the 5th Place / 8th Place match Saturday morning. Bouche and Liu grabbed the first set 6-4, but couldn’t close out the match in a closely-fought second set. Dillon and Hamilton took fifth place with a come-from-behind 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over the two Hawks.

The eighth-place finish was Bouche’s second significant result at the state tournament in as many years; she and teammate Gillian Braden- Armstrong placed fourth in doubles competition at the 2012 state tournament. For Liu, as a freshman, it was her first trip to state.
