The Mountlake Terrace boys track team proved their undefeated season in dual meets this year was no fluke as they were the top team at the two-day 3A Wesco Championships that concluded Friday at Shoreline Stadium. The boys took home the team title, the 4×100 relay crown, and three individual first-place ribbons.
On the girls’ side, Terrace grabbed fourth place in the 10-field meet and picked up first place finishes in five individual events.

Hawk McKenna Hunt won two 3A Wesco titles, the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.30, and the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.99. Both times were the sophomore’s best of the season in each event; the 100 meter hurdles time was a new MTHS school record.
Freshman Chinne Okoronkwo was another two-event winner, placing first in both the pole vault and the triple jump. Okoronkwo’s marks of 11-10 in the pole vault and 40 feet in the triple jump were season bests and new school records. Okoronkwo’s 40-foot triple jump mark is the best by any high schooler in the state this season.
Hawk freshman Hailee Malins won the 3A Wesco shot put title with a toss of 36-.75, her best of the year.

The MTHS boys 4×100 relay team of Duane Dahl, Quinnell Mason, Joshua Kim and Gifton Okoronkwo set a new school record of 43.02 in winning the event. Dahl and Okoronkwo were also victorious in individual events — Dahl in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.52, a season’s best a new school record; and Okoronkwo in the triple jump with a mark of 45’-1”.
Hawk senior Beau Kennedy took home the 3A Wesco javelin title with a toss of 173-9, his best of the year.
The Hawks head to Marysville next week for the 3A District 1 Championship meet at Marysville Pilchuck High School on Wednesday, May 15 and Friday, May 17. Top finishers at the district meet will qualify for the state championships in Tacoma later this month.
