With work nearing its completion on Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Mountlake Terrace, church leadership has announced that they will be holding their first service in the rebuilt facility on Sunday, March 20.

It has taken nine months to repair the 52-year-old building after a May 7, 2104 two-alarm fire caused significant structural damage to its north multi-purpose wing in addition to smoke and water damage to its main sanctuary.

Although all the church repairs may not be completed in time, the March 20 rededication service is still scheduled for 3 p.m.

“It looks like we may be short a few things, but we are going to give it a go,” Pastor Franklin Paine said.

The church is inviting other local congregations and other Lutheran Church Missouri Synod churches in the region to attend the rededication service. Mt. Zion Lutheran Church leadership has also prepared flyers for distribution locally announcing the March 20 service.

The May 2014 fire caused $300,000 to the church building. The congregation has been conducting services in donated space and a small building located on church property at 21428 44th Ave. W.
