Mountlake Terrace’s Okoronkwo takes second at New Balance meet

2015 New Balance Nationals Outdoor logoMountlake Terrace High School’s Chinne Okoronkwo finished second in a field of 40 elite prep triple jumpers Sunday at the 25th annual New Balance Nationals Outdoor Meet held in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Okoronkwo’s effort of 41 feet, 5.75 inches was second only to triple jump winner Kiara Williams of Homewood, Ala., who won the event with a mark of 41-9.75.

The meet drew elite high school track and field athletes from throughout the United States to compete on the campus of North Carolina A&T University.

Okoronkwo, who turns 17 years old and begins her senior year at Terrace in September, will next compete in the triple jump at the USATF Junior Championships at the University of Oregon in Eugene Thursday through Saturday, June 25-27.
