Though the 2014-15 school year is over, the Mountlake Terrace High School Sports Booster Club (SBC) didn’t want the year to fade away completely with acknowledging two more Hawk student athletes.
Mountlake Terrace High School Class of 2015 members Bryson Bruno and Kelly Herbig are being featured on the SBC Athlete Highlights poster for July and August; the posters are now being displayed at area businesses and community centers.
Bruno was part of the Hawk Hip Hop Dance Team that performed and competed throughout the 2014-15 school year. “Bryson was one of our co-captains this year and did an amazing job leading our team all the way to State for the first time in school year,” said Hip Hop Dance Team Coach Ashley Dawson.
“Bryson choreographs and teaches all of the routines and he is extremely good at it,” Dawson said. “He is caring and understanding in his approach, he works hard to make sure every member understands the moves and is always approachable for questions. He often stays late or helps team members outside of practice. He does a great job welcoming everyone and is truly passionate about dance.”
“I honestly believe we were able to make it to State this year due to Bryson’s strong abilities as a team leader,” Dawson said.
Herbig was selected to be the recipient of the 2015 Mike Watson Memorial Scholarship award by the MTHS Sports Booster Club. After three years playing volleyball for the Hawks, Herbig was a member of the Terrace Cheer Squad during her senior year.
Herbig plans on using the scholarship to help pay her way at the University of Portland beginning this fall where she will be studying nursing. “Tuition at the University of Portland is very costly and this scholarship will help relieve some of the financial burden that attending a university will put on my family,” Herbig said.
The monthly Athlete Highlights is offered to give Hawk coaches the opportunity to honor MTHS student athletes. To read about all the athletes selected for the publication, click https://www.eteamz.com/mthssportsboosterclub/handouts/index.cfm?cat=221812&subsite=5484680#2247799.
