Mountlake Terrace police blotter: Dec. 9-14

Dec. 9
A man was arrested for DUI in Mountlake Terrace. The suspect had driven over the center line and had expired tabs. Upon being pulled over, the officer smelled alcohol. The suspect said he hadn’t had a drink since September 2012, but was tired because he had been working since 5 a.m. He then went on to fail several field sobriety tests. When officers asked for a breath sample, he said “If I blow into that machine, I’ll get my license taken away.” He was arrested for DUI.

Dec. 11
A theft was reported in thee 21400 block of 36th Avenue West. A woman did some grocery shopping at a store there and checked out using a self-checkout. When she got home, she realized she left her purse. She returned to the store and it was gone. The self-check attendant did not see who took it. The woman later found her purse on a table in the parking lot area. Her wallet was missing from inside.

A wallet (not the one missing from the above entry) was found in the 22200 block of 52nd Avenue West. The responding officer attempted to notify the owner, but could not reach her. It was entered into evidence for safekeeping.

Dec. 12
An assault with a weapon was reported in the 23600 block of 56th Avenue West. A man reportedly pulled out a screwdriver and threatened another man with it. The man who pulled out the screwdriver told responding officers that he used it to defend himself. The store where this occurred had the man who pulled out the screwdriver trespassed. The victim will not press charges.

A woman reported an incident of fraud in the 23000 block of 55th Avenue West. A woman said she gave someone her social security number, debit card number and PIN when they told her she won a new car and $350,000. She realized after that it might be a scam. The responding officer had her call her bank and cancel her card to avoid charges. While she was speaking to the officer, two phone calls came in from the scam artists. The officer spoke to them, saying he was investigating and not to call again. They both hung up.

A cell phone was found at a church in the 23400 block of 56th Avenue West. It was placed in evidence for safekeeping.

Dec. 13
An unknown suspect was trespassing in the women’s restroom at Ballinger Park. Several light bulbs had been unscrewed and an electrical access panel was removed. Nothing appeared to be missing.

Dec. 14
An incident of malicious mischief was reported in the 6300 block of St. Albion Way. A vehicle was damaged in a vehicle in a parking lot there. Several windows were broken and a side view mirror was damaged, hanging loosely from the side of the vehicle.
