Mountlake Terrace to offer free swim lessons for third graders

MLT parks and recThird grade students who either reside or attend school in the Edmonds School District have the opportunity to have free swim lessons at the Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion thanks to a grant from the Verdant Health Commission.

The Verdant Health Commission awarded a grant that provides up to three sessions of swim lessons through a voucher system. Each session has an average of 10 classes.

The three-year grant is the result of a collaborative proposal submitted by the cities of Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds and Lynnwood. The total grant amount available is $167,000 per year for three years.

The Edmonds School District will be distributing the vouchers to their third grade students. Additional outreach efforts will be made to include third grade homeschool students and those attending private schools.

The Verdant Health Commission serves nearly 240,000 people in the communities of Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Woodway and portions of Bothell and unincorporated Snohomish County.

More information about the third grade swim program is available by calling the Recreation Pavilion at 425-776-9173 or www.mltrec.com for the swim lesson program and schedule.
