Mountlake Terrace launches special Comp Plan update website

City-of-MLT-logoMountlake Terrace has launched a special website on the City’s update to the Comprehensive Plan.

The website (www.cityofmlt.com/majorupdate) tracks the update process and progress.

A public open house on the update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan will be fronm 6-7 p.m., Monday, April 27 in the Council Chambers at the Interim City Hall, 6100 219th Street SW, second floor, Mountlake Terrace.

Cities and counties are required to periodically do a major review and, as needed, update their comprehensive plans and development regulations to meet current state laws. This update will cover a new period, 2015-2035. The update is to be consistent with the population and employment projections for that 20-year period. The update is due by June 30, 2015.

“Mountlake Terrace has already done a lot of work to keep its Comprehensive Plan and regulations current,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Sonmore at a City Council meeting.  “That means we don’t have to spend a lot of money to re-do things.  At the same time, we can take a fresh look and update what makes sense.”

Mountlake Terrace’s comprehensive plan and regulations already comply with state law, based on an analysis by City staff, but some parts will be updated to reflect current conditions, update analysis of transportation impacts, include newer information, and assure continued compliance with state law, such as the Growth Management Act requirements.

The overall vision and objective of the Comprehensive Plan is to promote community livability and vitality over the long-term. The Plan addresses economic development, the environment, housing, land use, transportation, recreation, parks and open space, capital facilities and utilities. The open house will have displays, maps and graphics on these and other topics.  The open house will be followed by a short presentation at 7 p.m. as part of the Planning Commission regular meeting that evening.
