Haeley Johnston, a junior in the STEM Magnet School at Mountlake Terrace High School, took part in the second Annual CTE (Career and Technical Education) Civic Engagement Day held at the state capital in Olympia on Feb. 4.
Johnston attended the event as part of her duties serving as the Vice President of the Washington Technology Student Association, the largest STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) student leadership organization in the state.
Johnston and other student leaders from around the state spent the morning meeting members of the state legislature, receiving training about the legislative process, practicing how to interact with legislators and discussing current issues that are important to CTE. Students spent the afternoon meeting with Senators and Representatives, encouraging them to continue support of CTE and STEM classes and programs.
