Seniors Ali Hitchcock and Daria Jamtaas have been selected as the featured Mountlake Terrace High School student athletes for the month of November by the school’s Sports Booster Club.

Profiles of Hitchcock and Jamtaas are now on display around town on the Sports Booster Club (SBC) Athlete Highlights publication posters.

Hitchcock just completed her third year on the varsity volleyball squad; Jamtaas has served as a captain of the girls swim team in each of the past two seasons.

“Choosing Ali Hitchcock as the volleyball highlight athlete for November was difficult as there are eight very deserving seniors on this year’s squad,” said volleyball Coach Marietta Snyder. “However, time and time again, Ali has displayed a commitment to her team and coaches that is unrivaled, making her ultimately an easy selection.”

“As a junior Ali was recognized as a top performer in her conference and now, as a senior, leads all of Wesco, 3A and 4A, in defense and places top five in the Puget Sound region in the same category,” Snyder said. “But Ali is not about stats; she is the consummate team play and mentor. She deflects attention as well as she digs an opponent’s hit and is always available to help a teammate or a young player.”

“Off the court, Ali is a top academic performer as well, juggling homework and Running Start courses, along with the time commitment required for volleyball. Ali has been a true pleasure to have on our team for the last four years. She is so easy to coach, as she listens, absorbs what she is hearing and never stops smiling,” Snyder said.

Hawk girls swim Coach Karin Reddecliffe called Jamtaas “an excellent team member” and emphasized the senior’s effort as a team captain. “She has helped with team organization as well as sorting out some rather delicate issues,” Reddecliffe said. “Her interest is always in what is best for the team, and then what is best for Daria. I know that if I need something done, Daria will step up and get it done, often involving other team members as a mentoring opportunity.”

In addition to a captain of the swim team, Jamtaas studies at Edmonds Community College in the Running Start program, holds a part-time job and has been active in the Girl Scouts for years, Reddecliffe pointed out. “Her commitment to the welfare of others is highly commendable. I have been fortunate to have worked with Daria for the past two years,” Reddecliffe said.

The SBC November Athlete Highlights publication is now up at selected businesses around Mountlake Terrace.
