Jazz lovers in the community are invited to attend the Edmonds School District Jazz Symposium in the Mountlake Terrace High School Theater this Saturday, Oct. 25, from 8 a.m. — 5 p.m. This event is free but you are welcome to make a nominal donation.
This event consists of local Big Bands (high schools and middle schools), combos and guest artists who will perform and receive feedback from jazz professionals.
Of note, the following high schools will be performing: Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds-Woodway, Meadowdale, Lynnwood, Bothell and Roosevelt. Great jazz, big bands and combos all day. “These bands and their jazz musicians will blow your socks off… and many have won many national and local jazz awards,” said Pete Bennett, whose jazz musician son Max Bennett graduated from Edmonds-Woodway in 2013. The Roosevelt High School band out of Seattle, along with Edmonds-Woodway and Mountlake Terrace, have made several appearances at the renowned Essentially Ellington Festival in New York City.
The Whitworth University Jazz Big Band from Spokane will also be performing from noon-1 p.m. under the direction of Dan Keberle.
