On June 30, the City of Mountlake Terrace Police Department graduated 18 students from its Citizens Police Academy. The graduates spent 2½ hours a week, for 12 weeks, learning how a Police department and other city departments operate.
Students toured the 911-dispatch center, rode along with an Officer on patrol and watched the department’s K-9, Hunter, search for hidden drugs. There were many hours of classroom time learning about things like domestic partner stalking and evidence collection.
The Graduation Ceremony, which was held at the Mountlake Terrace Library, included participants receiving their Certificates of Completion, along with congratulations from the City Council and Police Chief. Students and their families and guests were treated to a variety of desserts.
The City of Mountlake Terrace Police Department Citizens Academy, held annually in late spring, is open to anyone over 18 or over 16 with a parent attending.
