John J. Caulfield, City Manager of Mountlake Terrace, recently received the Credentialed Manager designation from ICMA, International City/County Management Association. Mr. Caulfield is one of over 1,200 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program.
“Mountlake Terrace is extremely fortunate to have a City Manager of John’s caliber. During these difficult economic times, our city has fared well with the professional expertise and experience John offers our community,” stated Mayor Jerry Smith.
To receive the prestigious ICMA credential, a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government, have earned a degree, preferably in public administration or a related field, and demonstrated a commitment to high standards of integrity and to lifelong learning and professional development.
Mr. Caulfield is qualified by 20 plus years of professional local government executive experience. Prior to his appointment as Mountlake Terrace City Manager in 2006, he served as Deputy City Manager, Community and Economic Development Director and Finance Director of the City of University Place. Mr. Caulfield has also worked at the City of Federal Way. Mr. Caulfield holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Seattle University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Boston University.
Mr. Caulfield has also made significant contributions to a number of other organizations including ICMA, Washington City/County Management Association, where he served as President in 2010-2011 and currently serves as Past-President, and the Board of Directors for South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce, Snohomish County Economic Development Council, Economic Alliance of Snohomish County, and the Association of Washington (AWC). Additionally, Mr. Caulfield has served on the Washington Cities Insurance Authority Executive Committee, Lynnwood Rotary Club, Tacoma Narrows Rotary Club, University Place/Fircrest Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, University Place Sister Cities Association Board of Directors, and Federal Way Planning Commission, which he chaired for over five years.
