The Mountlake Terrace City Council has two transportation issues and a Public Hearing on tap for Monday’s meeting.
The Public Hearing is on the revised 2015-2020 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Ordinance and the Council is expected to take action following the Public Hearing. The 2015-2020 TIP update ordinance was adopted last December. Shortly thereafter, the state notified the City that a $427,449 City Safety Program grant was awarded for the proposed 2015 Citywide Safety Improvements project.
This project was not formally named in the 2015-2020 TIP. For the City to receive the grant, the project must be formally named and included in the City’s TIP and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The six-year program may at any time be revised by a majority of the legislative body of a city, but only after a Public Hearing.
The Council also is scheduled to consider a resolution in support of the 2015 State Transportation Revenue and Reform Package.
City staff has recommended that the Council adopt the resolution for three primary reasons:
- The package includes funding set aside for Complete Streets that Mountlake Terrace could compete for in support of the Main Street project.
- The package includes investments in various grant programs vital to the funding of infrastructure projects in Mountlake Terrace.
- The package includes a direct gas tax distribution that will provide new funding each year to maintain Mountlake Terrace’s local roadways (e.g., overlay program, chip seal program).
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Mountlake Terrace Interim City Hall, 6100 219th St. SW., Suite 220, second floor.
