Mountlake Terrace Bartells to stop filling Medicaid/DSHS Rx

The Mountlake Terrace Bartell Drugs, located in Cedar Plaza, will stop filling Medicaid/DSHS prescriptions beginning February 1st, 2010. The Mountlake Terrace location is one of the 15 Bartells locations that will stop filling the presciptions. The others include Edmonds, Seattle Hill Road and 12 stores in King County. In Septemeber, the industry standard pricing was decreased at the federal level and, as a result, pharmacies are paid less for filling Medicaid/DSHS prescriptions. In a press release, Bartell CEO George Bartell said, “We want to fill prescriptions. Bartell Drugs is here to serve our customers — to fill their prescriptions and meet their health care needs and we feel we do a good job offering outstanding patient care. Accordingly, this is a painful decision and one we do not take lightly. We want to be clear that the decision has nothing to do with our DSHS customers, but only with the State,” said Bartell. “We look forward to serving these customers any other way we can.”

For now the remaining 42 Bartells locations will continue to fill th prescriptions. There are Bartell locations in Shoreline, Lynnwood and Bothell that may be convenient for you if you need to get Medicaid prescriptions filled.
