Motorists should be aware of MLT road closures, detours this week

39th Avenue West 001As work continues on two significant projects in Mountlake Terrace, motorists are being advised that lane closures and detour routes may be in effect in the two work zones this week.

The work of resurfacing Cedar Way/44th Avenue West and 228th Street Southwest near the Cedar Plaza Shopping Center has brought some lane closures and detours on a sporadic basis over the past few weeks; more are expected beginning on Wednesday, April 30. Drivers should expect delays of 20 minutes or more anytime during the project’s normal work hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Additional lane closures may be in effect during overnight.

The work on Cedar Way/44th Avenue West between 227th and 232nd Streets, and work on 228th Street Southwest between 39th and 44th Avenues, includes stripping of the old road surface, road repairs, an asphalt overlay, drainage and curb upgrades, traffic signal modifications, installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at some crosswalks, and lane reconfigurations, including the addition of bicycle lanes.

Work is in the final stages in front of the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300-58th Ave. W., as crews are busy with ground surface projects after installing a new regional stormwater infiltration facility underground. To accommodate the continuing work, crews may need to close 58th Avenue West between 232nd and 234th Streets Southwest Monday-Wednesday, April 28-30, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. A detour route utilizing 58th Avenue West will be in effect during any closure.

The new parking lot in front of the library is being reconfigured in order to accommodate more vehicles. The library is open regular hours during construction, with access available from 232nd Street Southwest.
