MLT resident takes second in Alki Beach 5K benefit for cancer patients

Mountlake Terrace resident Kate Nishino placed second in the women’s division of Sunday’s Alki Beach 5K benefiting Northwest Hope and Healing, a nonprofit that helps breast-cancer patients. A former Edmonds-Woodway High School cross country standout, Nishino is now assistant cross country coach at EWHS. She was running with several current members of the E-W cross country team, including two who were the first-place finishers in the men’s and women’s divisions.
