Mountlake Terrace resident Hannah Lake stars in the Village Theatre Kidstock production of Hairspray, opening this weekend at Village Theatre in Issaquah. The 18 year-old recent Edmonds Heights K-12 graduate (class of 2011) portrays Tracy Turnblad, the peppy oversized teen whose desire to dance in the local television show ends up helping racially integrate the city of Baltimore. The production opens July 30 and runs through August 7 (no shows August 1st and 2nd). Visit www.villagetheatre.org/Hairspray2011.php for information.
Lake, who has lived in Mountlake Terrace since age 2, has been acting since junior high. Most of her training has been through the Edmonds Heights K-12 musical theater program, in which she has portrayed a variety of lead, supporting and ensemble characters. In addition, Lake worked as a musical director for many of the programs, and was awarded a prestigious Fifth Avenue High School Musical Theatre Award for her portrayal of Mrs. Bennett in the Spring 2011 Washington State premier of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice: A Musical.
As a Running Start participant, Lake also took music classes through Edmonds Community College. Following her dream to be a choral conductor, she took private conducting lessons and was a student conductor for two of the college’s Symphonic Choir concerts last school year. She plans to complete her Associate’s Degree in Music at Edmonds Community College and transfer to a university for further study.
