Persistence and cooperation among police agencies paid off as Mountlake Terrace Police were able to recover tens of thousands of dollars of computer equipment and supplies that had allegedly been stolen from a local business.
A 44-year-old Mount Vernon man has been charged with felony Possession of Stolen Property in the case.
A business in the 4200 block of 212th Street SW had been burglarized of more than $31,000 of computers, printers and ink last April, said Mountlake Terrace Police Department Commander Doug Hansen. “Several items were recovered after the suspect had pawned some of the items,” he explained. “Most of the stolen equipment was recovered from a rental vehicle that had been rented by the suspect and not returned.”
On May 10, Everett Police Department officers found a Budget Rental truck blocks away from a K-Mart store that had been robbed. The truck had also been reported as stolen by the rental company back in February after the Mount Vernon man had rented it but never returned it. After a brief foot chase, both the Mount Vernon man and a passenger were captured by Everett Police.
“Our detective investigated items that were found in the stolen truck and connected them to the burglary in our city and a suspect,” Hansen said.
The suspect is also facing a Theft of rental or leased property charge stemming from the incident.
