MLT police arrest sex offender who failed to register

City of Mountlake Terrace Police arrested a sex offender at a home in the 24200 block of 57th Avenue West on Wednesday.

Officers had attempted to contact the 39-year-old man to serve a $75,000 arrest warrant from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office for failure to register as a sex offender.

At the Mountlake Terrace home, officers spoke with a 36-year-old female resident who reported that she had not seen the suspect for some time and that she thought he had gone to Spokane. However, while checking the interior of the home for the suspect, officers found adult male clothing and pornography in one of the bedrooms. They did not find the suspect home at that time.

Officers contacted the neighbors and explained their interest in the sex offender who had failed to properly register at that home. The neighbors were provided a description and were asked to call 911 if he was seen returning to the home.

Later that evening, neighbors called to report seeing the suspect jump a fence and return to the home. When officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot in an attempt to avoid arrest.

With assistance from Edmonds, Brier, Lynnwood and Shoreline officers, the suspect was tracked using an Edmonds K-9 unit; the dog located the suspect hiding in a backyard of a nearby residence.

The man was taken into custody and booked into the Snohomish County Jail on the arrest warrant.
