The Mountlake Terrace Off Leash Dog Park is again open after a brief closure that enabled city crews to fall and remove a hazardous tree, according to Community Relations Specialist Penny Merkley.

The dog park, 5303-228th St. S.W., was closed for a few hours on Wednesday, Aug. 29 as crews removed what remained of a large tree in the center of the fenced enclosure. The workers also used a chipper to create wood chips from branches, brush and debris; wood chips are often spread throughout open areas of the dog park.

One park regular said the tree had lost a large branch earlier this year, perhaps showing signs that it was diseased.

The Off Leash Dog Park, opened in March 2009, is available to the public from dawn to dusk, seven days a week.
