The City of Mountlake Terrace 17th annual National Night Out is set for Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 6-9 p.m. at Evergreen Playfield, 22205-56th Ave. W. The free family event will offer entertainment, food, informative displays and community involvement.
Kicking off the event will be a demonstration by Seattle TaeKwonDo, followed by Checkerboard Squares performing and calling square dances at 6:30 p.m. Also scheduled is a short presentation by city officials and a police K9 demonstration.
New this year is an opportunity for residents to drop off electronic waste free-of-charge. Waste Management Northwest will be manning collection bins on 224th Street Southwest where unwanted and unusable items that plug into a power outlet can be disposed of.
“The goal of National Night Out is to raise crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and provide an opportunity for neighbors and friends to gather and meet other neighbors, community leaders and local service providers,” explained event coordinator Erin Kelly.
Mountlake Terrace’s National Night Out event is funded by donations from local businesses and sponsors. This year’s sponsors include Premera Blue Cross, Audio Control, Red Onion Burgers and Roger’s Market.
The Mountlake Terrace event has been recognized by the National Association of Town Watch as a National Award Winner for its outstanding participation for several years. There were over 1,000 people who attended last year’s event.
The National Night Out campaign involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials.
