Cloudy and damp conditions added to the solemn nature of a memorial service held in front of the Mountlake Terrace Police Station on Wednesday to honor fallen officers.

About 40 people gathered at the station to hear a proclamation by the Mountlake Terrace City Council of May 15, 2013 as Peace Officer Memorial Day. Police Chief Greg Wilson and Mayor Jerry Smith spoke during the observance, which included a color guard ceremony, the laying of a wreath at the base of the station flagpole, the playing of taps and a moment of silence.

Following the memorial, the police department opened the doors of the station to the public for tours, a fingerprinting demonstration and snacks.
