The Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz Ensemble 1 will be performing this Friday, March 30, as part of Starbuck’s 17th Annual Hot Java Cool Jazz show. The concert will be held at the Paramount Theater in Seattle at 7 p.m. Proceeds from tickets sold at the Cedar Plaza Starbucks outlet (44th Avenue West and 228th Street Southwest) go to the music department of MTHS; tickets are $20.
MTHS Jazz Ensemble 1 will be one of five high school bands performing at the show, the others being Edmonds-Woodway, Ballard, Garfield and Roosevelt high schools.
In May, the MTHS Jazz Ensemble 1 will be traveling to New York to take part in the highly-acclaimed Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition and Festival. The group is one of only 15 high school bands from across the nation to be invited to the three-day event taking place at Lincoln Center. This will be the sixth time in the past 12 years that the MTHS music department has been represented at Essentially Ellington, twice earning third-place honors.
