Many of the flagpoles around Mountlake Terrace will be adorned this Memorial Day weekend with brand-new flags, replacing old flags flown by the city.

“It’s been a while since we replaced the flags around town,” said Mountlake Terrace Parks and Property Management Superintendent Ken Courtmauch. “We changed the flag at Veteran’s Memorial Park a couple of weeks ago, so we decided to take a look at all of them.”

The Mountlake Terrace Police Department got its new flag on May 15, just in time for the department’s memorial ceremony and open house that evening. Flags have since been replaced at Evergreen Playfield, Bicentennial Park and other city-owned parks and facilities.

Firefighters Memorial Park, 3900-228th St. S.W., will have to wait for its new flag until park upgrades and remodeling are finished.

Bicentennial Park, 4105-222nd St. S.W., flies a Bennington flag, with its seven-pointed stars, distinctive “76” in a wider canton, and unique six red and seven white stripe arrangement.
