MLT fire captain Don Navarre passes away

Don Navarre, a captain with Snohomish County Fire District 1 and previously a member of the Mountlake Terrace Fire Department, passed away on Jan. 19 after a nine-year battle with Hodgkin’s’ lymphoma. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1 p.m. at Westgate Chapel, 22901 Edmonds Way in Edmonds.

Navarre began his career as a firefighter in 1990 with the Mountlake Terrace Fire Department. The city department consolidated operations with Fire District 1 in 2001and, later that year, Navarra was promoted to the rank of captain.

In 2004 Navarre volunteer to enroll in paramedic school, graduating with the 30th Harborview Class of Medic One Paramedics.

In recent years, Navarre moved into the Fire Prevention Division, and was honored by the City of Mountlake Terrace with the Above and Beyond Inspiration Award for his work in fire inspection, investigation and public education.

Navarre is survived by his wife Janet; his four daughters Andrea, Dani, Jesi and Jacki; his mother Virginia Navarre; and his siblings Renee, Steve, Shelly, Mari and Nick.
