The Tour de Terrace Festival, the Arts of the Terrace Art Show and the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau were selected to receive the 2013 allocation of city hotel-motel tax revenue by the Mountlake Terrace City Council Monday night. Funds of $21,280 will be divided between the three recipients.
The city’s hotel-motel tax revenue is collected from tax receipts of Mountlake Terrace’s only lodging business, the Studio Six Hotel, 6017-244th St. S.W. The tax revenue is allocated annually to applicants that will use the money to increase overnight or off-season visits by visitors to Mountlake Terrace.
Tour de Terrace will receive $17,120 to help with promotion and expenses of the weekend festival, while Friends of the Arts is being allocated $1,400 for the promotion of its September Arts of the Terrace Art Show. The Snohomish County Tourism Bureau will receive $2,760 to cover the city’s membership dues to the organization.
The three organizations receiving portions of the tax revenue represent the only groups to apply for funds for 2013.
The $21,280 total of tax revenue is a lesser amount than the city has allocated in the past few years. A year ago the city sent $23,500 to local groups for tourism and promotion; for 2011 the allocation was $23,000. Part of the drop in allocation totals can be explained by the absence of a $1,000 expenditure to the Mountlake Terrace Business Association for the operation of a farmers’ market. The MTBA announced earlier this year that they are not sponsoring a market in 2013.
