The recruitment process for hiring a new Mountlake Terrace City Manager will be discussed at the City Council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Aug. 19, as officials prepare for the departure of current City Manager John Caulfield.
After seven years serving in the city’s top administrative post, Caulfield is leaving to become City Manager for the City of Lakewood in Pierce County effective Sept. 3.
In addition to seeking a new City Manager, the City Council is preparing to fill the job on in interim basis. At its Aug. 5 meeting, the City Council held an executive session to evaluate the qualifications of potential candidates and to discuss terms and conditions of an Interim City Manager’s employment. Based on Council’s discussion, the City Attorney has prepared a draft employment agreement to be executed with an Interim City Manager once appointed.
On Aug. 19, the City Council will again recess into executive session for the purpose of discussing the terms and conditions of the draft employment agreement and to further evaluate the qualifications of the Interim City Manager candidates. Following this discussion, the City Council will reconvene into open session and is expected take action to appoint an Interim City Manager subject to execution of an employment agreement. The Interim City Manager will take the helm on Sept. 2 at 5 p.m.
