MLT church to give out the love (and hot dogs) Friday at Tour de Terrace parade

IMAG1012One of the more unusual traditions of Tour de Terrace returns this year, Bethesda Lutheran Church and their free “hot dogs and hugs” booth.

The church, located at the corner of 234th Street Southwest and 56th Avenue West, just happens to sit at the starting point of the Tour de Terrace parade, set to roll this Friday beginning at 6:45 p.m. with a street performance by the Seattle Police Department Motorcycle Drill Team. With its prime location, the church decided to operate an outreach program six years ago.

“We are out there greeting the people as they come by and they find a place to sit for the parade,” said Joy Halladay, 76, one of the key leaders for the outreach. “It’s a community thing. We are dedicated to get out there and know the community.”

The church will be giving away 500 hot dogs and an unlimited number of hugs to one and all Friday night before the parade begins. The hot dogs and hugs are free; chips and pop are $1 each.
