MLT Church Provides Free Tutoring for Children

LgGroup-SBUGrant-a

I would like to let you know about a special program for kids. Wings To Reading is offered for Mountlake Terrace Elementary school children at First Baptist Church in Mountlake Terrace. My daughter who is in 2nd grade at Cedar Way is in this program. It is offered 2 times a week for 3 hours.  They would greatly appreciate any donation you may be able to give them. Please call them if you can help or to get more information on how to help. They are also seeking volunteers to help with the program. Director of Wings To Reading is Mrs. Diane Plourde, M.ED. 425-743-0351

The church’s purpose for the Wings to Reading program is “to raise literacy scores on school based testing for primary-grade students from selected public schools in Mountlake Terrace.” Their goals are:

  • To assist children who would otherwise not have the resources to obtain tutoring in reading.
  • To assist children in poverty.
  • To assist children who are English Language Learners.
  • To provide two days a week of 3-4 hours each day of after school programming.
  • To provide a substantial nutritious snack.
  • To obtain enough computers/lap tops for children to use for their homework and school projects.
  • To provide tools to complete homework assignments.
