Yes, I want to support MLTnews! In preparation for having temporary state funding expire, King County Metro Transit has put 74 bus routes on the chopping block. But Metro Route 347, which serves Mountlake Terrace, is not in danger of being cancelled or reduced, the agency said Thursday.
Metro provides about 400,000 rides daily to bus riders throughout King County, but said it will have to reduce services starting in June 2014, unless the state Legislature replaces Metro funding that is scheduled to expire next year. Metro has identified 74 bus routes it will cancel and another 109 routes it will reduce or revise if new funding from Olympia isn’t approved.
“Temporary funding and reserves run out next year, and those were part of how we kept service running through the weak economy after the Great Recession,” said Kevin Desmond, Metro Transit General Manager. “We’ll continue to push for stable funding to keep King County and the state’s economy moving forward, but time is running out. Metro must plan for service cuts to reduce costs and operate within our adopted budget.”
Route 347, which operates from the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center and through portions of Mountlake Terrace before crossing the King-Snohomish County line into Shoreline, is one of 33 routes that would not be changed in Metro’s tentative plans for service reduction.
