Mayor Jerry Smith recently received an Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership (CML) from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC). Mayor Smith completed over 60 hours of training credits and recently submitted paperwork demonstrating his vast community service to earn this distinction.
Mayor Smith has served on the City Council since January of 2002 and has been elected Mayor by the City Council since 2004.
Currently, three Mountlake Terrace City Councilmembers have received the highly coveted Advanced CML including Mayor Jerry Smith, Mayor Pro Tem Laura Sonmore, and Councilmember John Zambrano.
According to AWC, the Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership “challenges leaders to step beyond their current role as elected officials and enhance their professional development through additional community service”.
The CML helps elected officials in Washington cities gain the knowledge and skills required for effective governance. Trainings include topics such as budgeting, land use planning, personnel, and leadership to improve Councilmembers’ ability to work with their Council colleagues, city staff, and community stakeholders.
Most excellent!
Thanks for all you do Jerry! 😉
