
With five Hawks qualified for Mat Classic XXVI, fans of Mountlake Terrace High School wrestling will have plenty to root for at the WIAA state wrestling championships this week at the Tacoma Dome.
Hailee Malins, Taron Castleton, Danil Oliferovskiy, Syd Springberg and Brett Potter will all be part of one of the largest of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association state championships conducted each year.
The state meet will feature hundreds of high school wrestlers in 420 matches over two days. Terrace’s five wrestlers are scheduled to compete in their opening matches between 11:20 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. on Friday.
The first matches at Mat Classic XXVI are slated to begin at 10 a.m. Friday, with competition continuing until 9:30 p.m., then starting up again at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Championship matches are scheduled to take place beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Single-day admission to Mat Classic XXVI is $15 for adults and students without a valid ASB Card, $11 for seniors 62-and-older and students with a valid ASB card. Two-day admission is $23 for adults and students without an ASB Card, $17 for seniors 62-and-older and students with an ASB card. Doors open each day at 8:45 a.m.
