The Mountlake Terrace Arts Advisory Commission presents the Mary Bess Johnson Exhibit at the City of Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Avenue West. “Every adventure under the water’s surface can be a treasure hunt to discover delicate plants and animals of fanciful color and design,” says Mary Bess Johnson. She uses techniques from the photographic studio to convey the sense of serenity and beauty experienced while floating in the underwater wonderland.
Johnson’s favorite place as a young child was an aquarium on Tacoma’s waterfront. Fascinated by what she saw on her underwater adventures, she began to photograph the amazing life forms with an underwater camera on loan from her brother. Johnson studied studio photography at Everett Community College and a variety of photo techniques with photographers Mark Nelson, Dick Aarentz, Cathy Church and Dan Burkholder.
Johnson has exhibited her work both locally and internationally including at Edmonds Art Studio Tour, Edmonds and Shoreline Art Festivals, Arts of the Terrace, Shack Art Center in Everett, Meyers Café and in an Artist Trade Mission to China.
The show runs through August 31 at the City of Mountlake Terrace Library, Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
