Mountlake Terrace businesses continue to make their mark in the annual KING 5 “Best of Western Washington” contest as past winners are leading their categories, prior contenders are at or near the top, and numerous other participants are receiving votes.

The contest, sponsored by KING-TV’s Evening Magazine, allows fans to vote online for their favorites in numerous categories covering businesses, entertainment, people and places in the Puget Sound area. Almost 22,500 businesses are in this year’s competition.

Double DD Meats, 5602-232nd St. S.W., has been named the Best Butcher for the past three years and is currently leading this year’s voting in the category. “It’s always exciting to win something like that,” said owner Kim Nygard.

It doesn’t seem to matter if the staff at Double DD Meats pushes for support in the competition or not; customers keep voting for the business. “A couple years ago we were telling our customers to vote for us,” Nygard said. “Last year we just left it alone to see what would happen. I didn’t want to keep bugging our customers, but they voted for us anyway.”

Another Mountlake Terrace past winner is Cinebarre Theater, 6009-244th St. S.W., in the Best Movie Theater category. They are again leading in the category this year.

With first-run movies and great food and beverages, it’s no wonder Cinebarre has attracted a loyal following. The theater also offers many special events like $5 Tuesdays, The Breakfast Club brunches on weekends, and free admission to live Monday Night Football (the Sept. 24 game features the Seattle Seahawks vs. the Green Bay Packers).

For businesses like Seattle Tae Kwon Do, 22803-44th Ave. W. A2, and Big E Ales, 5030-208th St. S.W., 2012 may be the chance to achieve what has just been out of reach previously. Seattle Tae Kwon Do finished 2nd last year in the Best Martial Arts category, but is leading in this year’s voting. Big E Ales is currently ranked 4th in the Best Brewpub category after finishing 3rd last year. Seattle Tae Kwon Do is pushing hard on social media to gain votes, while Big E Ales is counting on word-of-mouth for support.

Other Mountlake Terrace businesses doing well in this year’s voting so far are Ringers Pub & Grill, 22803-44th Ave. W. B3, currently 14th place in the Best Sports Bar category, and Red Dragon Casino, 21917 Highway 99, now at 22nd place in the Best Casino category.
