The 2012 Manu Sood Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission has awarded a $1,500 scholarship to Mountlake Terrace High School Senior Amanda Shoemaker. The endowment supports an annual scholarship targeted for arts students.
Shoemaker, who will be attending Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, has contributed to Mountlake Terrace High School as well as her community. “I plan on studying the visual arts with a focus on photography. I am honored to be awarded the Manu Sood scholarship,” she said. “I have found that I have a passion for art and self-expression and it’s what I enjoy doing most.”
“We are very pleased to award the third annual scholarship to Amanda in honor of Manu and in conjunction with the Arts Commission,” said the Sood Family. “Amanda has been described as a dedicated, passionate and talented art student, all characteristics of what Manu was all about.”
Manu Sood, who passed away in 2009, cared deeply for family, friends and community. She became a member of the Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission, which complimented her passion for painting. Her husband, Vic Sood, serves on the city’s Planning Commission and her son, Nalin, is a teacher and varsity boys’ basketball coach at Mountlake Terrace High School.
Donations to the Manu Sood Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission Scholarship can be sent to Mountlake Terrace High School, in care of Andi Nofziger-Meadows, at 21801 44th Ave. W., Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043.
