Mountlake Terrace High School senior Lucy Schermer took home first place in flute solo at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) Solo/Ensemble Contest held in Ellensburg.

Schermer was one of more than 2,700 high school musicians competing at the state event in late April. She had won the same competition as a sophomore two years ago.

Other Edmonds School District winners at the state solo and ensemble contest were Kyle Brooks, Edmonds-Woodway High School, first place in tenor sax solo; and Ryan Petriello, Meadowdale High School, first place in string bass solo.
