A number of Mountlake Terrace High School students were honored for leadership, achievement and academic performance this week.

MTHS junior Katherine Higgins qualified for a six-day summer residency experience at the Museum of Flight in Seattle through the Washington Aerospace Scholars education program. Higgins is one of only 160 juniors statewide to earn a spot in the summer residency based upon a rigorous on-line education curriculum in science, technology, engineering and math. Higgins and the other attendees will be immersed in space and engineering studies while at the residency program.

Higgins was also honored with an Edmonds School District Career and Technical (CTE) Leadership and Achievement Award for her studies in pre-engineering. Other MTHS students presented with CTE awards were Jocelyn Leggett in theatre arts, Michelle Schomer in family and consumer sciences, Max Jernigan in carpentry, and the team of Michelle Schomer, Kyra Dahlman, Nazia Khan, Joy Gardner, Shannon Beaumont, Erick Yanzon and Nick Fiorillo for media communication — journalism.

The CTE Leadership and Achievement Awards are presented to district students who exhibit outstanding leadership and technical skills. The award winners were selected from nearly 1,500 district students taking CTE courses.
