Local Girl Scout Troop 41923 will be conducting a food drive at Rogers Market, 23120-56th Ave. W., Friday through Sunday, with all food collected to be donated to the Concern for Neighbors Food Bank.

This is the 15th year the troop has sponsored a drive on the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, with this year’s effort expected to bring out plenty of participation among the scouts. “Each troop members has a two-hour shift so all the girls get a chance to help the community,” said Troop 41923 spokesperson Karin Rice. More than 2,500 pounds of food was collected in the 2012 effort.

Troop members not only collect food outside of Rogers Market, but work on sorting and categorizing the donations, then deliver them to the food bank’s operation center in Mountlake Terrace. “Yep, the girls work hard,” Rice added.

Cash donations are also accepted, then used to purchase various items not normally donated but needed by the food bank.
