Reminder: Learn more about program to manage diabetes at free dinner Thursday

ada_logoThe American Diabetes Association is offering a free year-round program aimed at helping South Snohomish County residents prevent and manage Type 2 Diabetes.

The Stop Diabetes Initiative (SDI) is designed for individuals enrolled in the Diabetes Association’s Living with Type 2 Diabetes program, and their families. Made possible through support from the Verdant Health Commission, the program includes fun, interactive workshops and activities over the course of the year.

The Stop Diabetes Initiative is a collaborative approach involving retailers, pharmacists, health providers, schools and other community organizations committed to helping families affected by diabetes and reducing the risk of painful and costly complications. Stop Diabetes Initiative participants will receive free health screenings, access to health care providers and other community resources.

Each workshop will address several key elements including:

·         The ABC’s of diabetes management —blood sugar monitoring and medications
·         Cooking and nutrition — your best choices start at home!
·         Physical activity for everyone, for life
·         Understanding emotional health and the diabetes link

Interested participants are invited to attend a free community dinner from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, June 27 at Volunteers of America in Lynnwood. Click here for a map and directions. You will be served a freshly prepared meal by Chef Tom French of Experience Food Project and can learn more about the program.
