Plans for a large-scale brewpub in downtown Mountlake Terrace were announced this week by the owners of the West Plaza shopping center.

West Plaza, 5602-232nd St. S.W., is home to several existing local businesses such as Double DD Meats, Prime Pizza and Queen’s Cleaners. The full-scale brewery operation and pub will occupy the now-vacant 9,000-square-foot space in the plaza adjacent to Double DD Meats. An unnamed Washington State craft brewer, with already successful operations, has been chosen and negotiations are underway for the location that will include 200-plus seats and brewery.

The West Plaza is located in the center of Mountlake Terrace’s future Town Center, is adjacent to the city’s post office, and is within walking distance of the library, the transit center, a future light rail station and a potential new Civic Center.

“We are enjoying collaborating with the City and the brewery, and know that the energy this brewpub will bring to the area will be a positive addition to the plans already underway to create the new Town Center,” said Kirk Ishizaki, West Plaza LLC representative. “Located at the crossroads of the community, we see this as a fun gathering place.”

Kirk Ishizaki said full-scale plans of the brewery will be unveiled in the next several months. Demolition of the space previously occupied by various restaurants and nightclubs has already been started; a summer 2013 opening for the brewpub is planned.

  1. I think some of the City’s conceptual images and plans from the Town Center rezone show 57th extending south through that property should it ever be redeveloped. The property was purchased a couple of years ago and they don’t have plans to redevelop it in the near future.
