The second half of the 2012-2013 season for the MTHS girls basketball team has been magical at times, with come-from-behind wins and upsets of teams with better records. The magic, and the season, ran out for the Hawks on Wednesday night as the team dropped their finale to Wesco 3A South’s first-place Glacier Peak, 52-35.
Terrace stayed close to the Grizzlies until they were outscored 13-4 in the fourth quarter in Snohomish.
Hawks Maddie Kristjanson and Samantha Romanowski each scored 12 points in the defeat. Nikki Fausey, also with 12 points, led Glacier Peak in scoring.
The Grizzlies finished the regular season with a Wesco league record of 10-3, 15-5 overall, making them and the Stanwood Spartans, sporting a 12-0 league mark and 17-2 overall record, the teams to beat in the girls 3A district tournament that starts next week. Mountlake Terrace’s season records of 5-8 in league play and 8-12 overall failed to qualify them for postseason play.
