After a victory over Newport and a win via forfeit, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks have a record of 2-1 in this weekend’s Edmonds Summer Shootout girls basketball tournament heading into the last day of play on Sunday, June 9. Terrace will face the Ballard Beavers in a quarterfinal match-up in the “Silver Bracket” of the tourney. The game will take place at Edmonds Woodway High School at 11:30 a.m.
The Hawks had been slated to meet Kent Meridian in their first game on Saturday, but the Royals failed to bring a team to the tournament. Terrace did get on the court for their second game on Saturday and got a result they wanted, defeating the Newport Knights 34-31.
If Terrace is able to grab a victory over Ballard on Sunday, it sets up a possible Wesco 3A South conference matchup with the Shorecrest Scots at 1:30 p.m.; that possible game would match new Hawk head coach Zach Wilde against the coach he served as an assistant for last year, Dori Monson. A Hawk lost to the Beavers would eliminate Terrace from any further play in the tournament.
The other three Edmonds School District schools are still alive in the Summer Shootout and will be in action at Meadowdale High School on Sunday. Lynnwood and Edmonds Woodway are both 3-0 in the tourney and are in the quarterfinals of the “Gold Bracket.” Lynnwood is scheduled to face Mercer Island at noon; Edmonds Woodway will take on Glacier Peak at 1 p.m in loser-out games.
The Meadowdale Mavericks (2-1) play their final game, win or lose, of the Summer Shootout at 10:00 a.m. against the Monroe Bearcats.
The championship game of the tournament is scheduled for a 5 p.m. tip-off at Meadowdale High School.
