With nine individual state titles in track and field competition, Mountlake Terrace Hawk senior Chinne Okoronkwo has distinguished herself as the most decorated athlete to attend the school. Now, she is somewhere no other Mountlake Terrace high schooler has gone before — Sports Illustrated.

Okoronkwo is one of the six athletes featured in the Faces in the Crowd column inside the June 13 issue of Sports Illustrated. In the column, the sports magazine wrote of the senior’s fourth straight state triple jump title and repeat titles in the long jump and pole vault. The column adds that Okoronkwo is ranked No. 2 nationally in the triple jump this season and placed third in the event at the 2015 Pan Am junior championships.

Okoronkwo is believed to be the first athlete from Mountlake Terrace High School ever to be profiled in the Sports Illustrated column.

The 18-year-old will graduate from Terrace next week, but will miss the school’s commencement exercises on June 17; Okoronkwo is scheduled to compete in the triple jump and the long jump at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Meet in Greensburo, North Carolina June 17-19.
