The MLT Hawks women finished winter break with two games, the first was a trip to face Stanwood. They were outsized in the front court with Stanwood having 6′-3″ and 6′ post players while the Hawks tallest player is only 5’9″ senior post Mary Boxley, who finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and a steal. The Spartans took good care of the ball only committing 10 turnovers, while the Hawks committed 19 and gave up 17 offensive rebounds. Stanwood took an early lead, Terrace held on until the fourth quarter when the Spartans pulled away for good, beating Terrace by a final score of 67-49. Mindy James led with 17 points, 4 rebounds, Smith 12 points 6 rebounds, Kristjanson 7 points, 9 rebounds, Mitsui 5, Christman, Lotz 2.
In the second game, Tyee traveled from SeaTac where they play in the Seamount league. Tyee started out strong building an early 10 point lead. It was a back and forth game with Terrace regaining the lead by halftime, but Tyee would not allow Terrace to gain any momentum. It came down to the last possession of the game, Terrace up by two, Tyee with 13 seconds on the clock brought the ball up and took a shot with 3 seconds remaining, the shot was missed and Maddy Kristjanson ripped the ball away on the rebound to secure a 51-49 victory, and the 4th win on the season for the Hawks. Mindy James scored 18 points, Cristine Lotz with 14 points while going 6-6 from the free throw line, and Kristjanson had a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Christman 6 points, Mitsui 1, Boxley 9 rebounds, 3 blocks.
The Hawks resume Wesco 3A play next week @ Shorecrest Wednesday 7:30pm and host Meadowdale Friday @ 7:30pm.
