Johnny Spuds/Sahara Pizza Closes

After being open for only a year, Johnny Spuds/Sahara Pizza has closed it’s doors. Johnny Spuds was located in the building formerly occupied by Zen 244 on 244th St. SW. The restaurant was an interesting mix of fish n’ chips and pizza along with a full bar.

Though Johnny Spuds was only around for a year, it was not without it’s fair share of controversy. Back in October, they started having “bikini bartenders” and allegedly even had a stripper pole in the restaurant.

There is no shortage of pizza place in MLT which may be a reason why the place didn’t make it.

  1. As I commented on FB, I’m really not surprised. While it certainly is a shame to lose yet another MLT business, I truly feel this one was doomed from the start. nnAs I noted on long ago review of Johnny’s, there was just indecisiveness going on here that made the environment unwelcome to the average patron. I know that *I* did NOT enjoy my one visit there, so while there may have been a smattering of others that did, it’s obvious with Johnny’s closure, that I was not alone.nnHopefully, MLT will gain another new business there with a better plan and execution, and integrate with the community as other new businesses have.

  3. It’s a terrible location for one thing. Nothing can stay open there, even though it gets plenty of traffic as I drive by everyday I have never stopped. Hopefully whatever opens there, the owner will have passion in what he or she is doing and doesn’t try to do everything.

I think the only business that might work there would be a brewery based on the outside of that building.. it doesn’t attract customers at all.
