Is the City Council punishing Zambrano?

In a small story published in the Enterprise on Wednesday, Mountlake Terrace council member John Zambrano accuses the other council members of punishing him for challenging Jerry Smith in last fall’s election:

Mountlake Terrace City Councilman John Zambrano says he believes that other council members are punishing him for challenging fellow Councilman Jerry Smith in last year’s election.

Zambrano wanted to continue as the council’s representative to the Southwest Snohomish County 911 communications board, but Councilwoman Laura Sonmore used her council seniority to take the position that Zambrano had held for six years.

Zambrano said Monday he believes fellow council members had planned to take the position away from him.

Council members get to choose which boards they serve on in order of seniority and at the January 4th council meeting these decisions were made. Even if you’ve served on the board previously, a more senior council member can choose the board when it is up for renewal.

  1. I think John Zambrano is doing a great job. We need diversity of opionons on the council to fully represent the diversity of our community. I hope Councilman Zambrano keeps up the great work he has been doing. He is an asset to our community!
