The MTHS Hawks, off to an 0-2 start for the 2013 season, find themselves limping into Edmonds Stadium for Friday’s football clash with the Lynnwood Royals as a number of key starters are injured and questionably for the game.
Key starters that may not be available for Terrace on Friday are quarterback Justin Hopkins (ankle), offensive guard and linebacker Brett Potter (knee) and offensive tackle and defensive tackle Jevin Pahinui (undisclosed).
Head coach Tony Umayam called the rash of injuries to his team the worst he has ever experienced. “I’ve never seen it like this,” he said on Wednesday. “We’ve had four or five years of injuries so far this season.”
Terrace lost senior Devante Downs to a season-ending ACL tear even before fall practices started in August. Hopkins sprained his left ankle during the team’s first offensive possession of the first game on Sept. 6.
The Hawks face a Royals team Friday that is also 0-2, but played both their Sept. 6 opponent Shorecrest and their Sept. 13 opponent Shorewood tough, only losing 20-15 and 20-14 respectfully.
The MTHS-Lynnwood matchup will be broadcast live on the Sound Live Sports Network beginning with the pregame show at 4:45 p.m.
