Are you able to host an international student in your home for a few weeks in July?
Education First Educational Homestay Programs needs caring volunteer host families immediately. This non-profit program provides a unique opportunity for families to make life-long friendships with international students while learning about their culture — all without leaving home.
Host families are needed from July 3-29 for 18 students from Spain, ages 14-18. The homestay program arranges two full-day fun and educational activities per week, chaperoned by staff, and host siblings are welcome to join some activities. The other weekdays and weekends will be free for host families to enjoy activities with their student.
Children of host families can earn up to 60 hours of community service credit and families will receive travel rewards and discounts through this program. Spanish students come with their own spending money, medical insurance and round-trip airline tickets. In addition, 24/7 support from EHP staff is available.
Education First notes that host families “come in all shapes and sizes: families with or without children, empty nesters or retirees, single professionals and anything in between; all are welcome.” Even if you can only host for one or two weeks, they could use your help. All student homes must be secured by June 17, so if you can help, contact Pamela Shaw at 617-233-7467 or email pamela.shaw@ef.com for details.
Families or Individuals are asked to provide a room (shared is fine), an extra plate at the table, some light transportation, and — most importantly — a stable caring environment.
