Putting together their best team performances of the year, the Mountlake Terrace High School track teams shone bright at the Terrace Invite Saturday at Edmonds Stadium. The girls team ran away with first place in the 13-team field, outscoring their closest competitor by 39 points; the Hawk boys grabbed a second-place team finish in their 14-team field.

A number of Hawks not only won various events, but also set personal season-best marks at the meet. Sophomore Chinne Okoronkwo was a triple winner, out-jumping all her competition in the pole vault, the long jump and the triple jump. Her mark of 39-8.5 in the triple jump is not only a season high, but is believed to be the best of any high school girl in the state this year.

Terrace’s McKenna Hunt ran a 16.04 in the 100 meter hurdles, good for first in the event and her best time of the season. Hunt also finished second in the 300 meter hurdles on Saturday.

Hawk Hailee Malins won the shot put with a season-best toss of 37-10.25, and Katherine Gustafson took to top spot in the 1600 meters with her best time of the year, a 5:17.63.

On the boys’ side, senior Jack Pearce won both the 1600 meters and the 3200 meters; his 9:39.92 in the 3200 meters was his best effort of the year. Hawk Brett Potter grabbed first place by a half-an-inch over Juanita’s Blake Peterson in the shot put; Peterson turned that result around by finishing ahead of second place Potter in the discus.
